The Beagle Idol

Regal Beagle IdolThe Beagle Idol is a twelve week karaoke contest at The Regal Beagle Pub that will be running every Thursday night from October 7, 2010 until December 23, 2010. Three weeks of open auditions will start the contest off for the weeks of October 7th, October 14th and October 21st. There is a $5 registration fee, all the proceeds of which are going towards The Youth Singers of Calgary TAZ Enterainment Bursary Fund to assist underprivileged youth to get involved with The Youth Singers.

 

If you would like to register for the contest, please arrive at the Regal Beagle by 8:30 pm on either October 7th, October 14th, or October 21st and talk to the contest co-ordinator / host. Only twenty contestants may enter each night of the preliminaries and registration will be on a first come first served basis.

 

The first three weeks of the contest will be judged exclusively by the audience in attendance. Thirty contestants will be allowed (50% of all entries) to move forward to the first official round of the contest which will be judged by three professional judges and the audience vote with a 3:2 weighting ratio (Each judge vote is worth 1, combined audience vote is worth 2). This is done to ensure that talent moves forward to further rounds of the competition (rather than only audience popularity or 'friends' of the contestants) however, unless all three judges agree, the audience vote will decide the winner.

 

Through each round of the competition, contestants will be eliminted until a winner is selected from the final four on the night of the finals (December 23, 2010).

 

The primary objective of the Regal Beagle Idol is to raise funds and awareness for The Youth Singers of Calgary. Funds will be raised through the following means:

  1. $5 Registration fee from each contestant who registers
  2. $1 per ballot card sold to voters each night of the contest
  3. Each contestant will raise pledge money from friends, family and co-workers who are willing to sponsor them in the contest. Raising money for The Youth Singers is not a requirement for entering, however a prize will be awarded for the contestant who raises the most money for the youth singers. The Deadline for raising pledge money is November 11, 2010.
  4. TAZ Entertainment and The Regal Beagle will each be donating $300 to the program.

The goal of the bursary is to provide a fund that will allow underpriviledged youth to participate in a program that develops young people in the areas of singing, dancing, performing and public speaking in the same way that other programs exist to help children get involved in sports like hockey and soccer. The Youth Singers of Calgary helps young people to increase their confidence in themselves and introduce them to the musical and performing arts.
